Review:This show is one of the first rock and mineral shows I ever went to and it is still one of my favorites. Yah, it's just a small neighborhood club show but hey, it's my neighborhood! There's just so much fun packed into such a small space ;-) a hub of activity. As I walk in the front door, there's a fellow cutting geodes directly in front of me, there's the dinosaur (yah dinosaur?!), there's several people in a room to the right showing jewelry making techniques, micromounting, bead working and wire wrapping. Through the main doorway is a room full of people and rocks. It's clear that these people love rocks! there's maybe 30 cases showing off the collections of club members, a silent auction area, probably about 10 vendors, a display case full of raffle items, a fluorescent mineral display, educational displays, all kinds of stuff. A whole area is devoted to the kids - with jewelry making, a garnet hunt, tumblers set up, spin the wheel and win a rock, scavenger hunt, mineral bingo, grab bags. Mineral bingo !? Yah, me neither ! Lots of fun for the kid in all of us. My favorite display of all was a collection of bocce ball sized spheres. I always love spheres but what made this particular display so cool is that it came with the sphere maker too. Lewis Wilburn is a club member and you can tell he loves to talk about rocks and I got to learn everything I wanted to know about sphere making. So cool! Yes, it's a pretty small show but it has a lot of heart.
